The United Ostomy Association of America (UOAA) was one of the first organizations that I turned to post colostomy surgery. It is also the organization that many turn to with their vast array of sponsored ostomy support groups. This is why we’re so excited that they are partnering with us for our Give A Sh*t program.
The UOAA is a national network of bowel and urinary diversion support groups. They serve to unify and strengthen their members and their respective caregivers.
One of our first interactions with the UOAA was to find an ostomy support group in my area. This has been a continuous joy for us to meet other ostomates & caregivers, make new friends, and share in their joys & concerns.
Some things you may not know about the UOAA is that they produce a quarterly magazine called The Phoenix. This magazine provides its readers wide variety of professional written topics by medical professionals, authors, and ostomates. It helps its readers return to a full and rewarding life with an ostomy.
Another great annual event that the UOAA hosts is its national conference. This year the UOAA’s conference will be held in Jacksonville, FL. This 3-day event has much to offer, including an exhibition hall, educational workshops, entertainment, and a discussion panel.
As one of the definitive non-profits that support ostomates, we’re thrilled to be partners with the UOAA for the month of May. For all customer purchases at awestomy.com for the month of May, Awestomy will donate 15% to the UOAA to aid in the extension of their programs as well as raise awareness.
