When we started Awestomy, our clothing business for hip, happenin’ ostomates, we were excited because we thought we had an wonderful opportunity to make a difference in someone’s life. Our goal was (and still is) to create cute and fun clothing so ostomates can feel like themselves again. However, after reading Start Something That Matters, the story of Toms Shoes, it became apparent to us that we needed to do something similar with Awestomy!
After reading this book, we thought we could do more. Look, bowel related diseases suck and we hate the fact as a large part of the population continues to suffer through them and that many of which are incurable. If the only way to find cures and real answers is through awareness and supporting great causes & charities, then this is what we should do.
This is why Awestomy! is proud to announce our ‘Give a Sh*t’ program. In the same vein as Sevenly and Toms, Give A Sh*t will provide support to bowel related non-profit organizations and causes. We have found out about so many great organizations in our short time with Awestomy! and are really excited to learn about more!
Through G.A.S. (Yes, the abbreviation of it is even perfect!) we are doing the following:
- Donating 15% of our sales to an ostomy related charity on a monthly basis
- Highlighting the charity through website exposure, social media and email marketing
- Promoting awareness by encouraging community involvement and partnerships
We know there is a lot of work to do but anything worth doing shouldn’t be easy. We will be highlighting our first charity on October 1st and here is a punny clue: What is the difference between a nicely dressed man on a tricycle and a poorly dressed man on a bicycle? A tire…. You get it!
For now, we encourage you to check out the G.A.S. page and tell your friends about what we are all about! If you are a part of a charity or know someone who could benefit from our program, please, let us know. Charities can sign up through the G.A.S. sign up page. The only requirements are that the charity needs to be a registered non-profit, relate to our mission and have a social media presence. We are so excited to get this going and we hope that we can show the world that we really do Give A Sh*t!
